Rohr has done well, but not better than Local Coaches – Disu

Former Nigeria international Tajudeen Disu says he doesn’t think Super Eagles Coach Gernot Rohr has performed better than local coaches who has handled the Eagles in the past, but praised the Franco-German’s achievements so far.

Gernot Rohr led the Super Eagles to the Russia 2018 World where they failed to go pass the group stage and he’s on the verge of qualifying the team for next year’s African Cup of Nations in Cameroon; with Nigeria needing a draw against South Africa to seal her place in the tournament.

While assessing the performance of the coach, Disu told Cornerstonenewsng.comin a telephone conversation that managing a National team is the simplest job in the world of football and believed that coaches reaped from the zeal and desire of players to win for their country.

“Coaches will be rated based on results but personally I think the zeal of players to succeed for their country is robbing off on National team coaches, If any coach want to prove his worth , he should go and manage a club side.”

When asked about the praises Gernot Rohr received following Nigeria prospect of qualifying for the Nations Cup again having missed out in the last two edition under Coach Stephen Keshi and Sunday Oliseh/Samson Siasia respectively, the member of the Flying Eagles squad to the 1983 U20 World Cup in Mexico, said the former Gabon coach has tried but is not better than local coaches who Managed the team in the past.

“Rohr has done well but I’m not of the opinion that he’s better than local coaches or has achieved what local coaches hasn’t achieved with the team. He’s not better than any local coaches”.

Disu, who is the Supervisor for Youth and Sports, Surulere Local Government, said managing youth team players is more difficult than the seniors, therefore the youth coaches should be respected and appreciated.

” I think the youth coaches deserves more recognition because that’s where the most of the job lies but it’s unfortunate these coaches are not respected.”
