Rohr Must be Desperate should He Agree to Outrageous Terms in New Super Eagles Contract

The NFF vs Gernot Rohr contract renewal situation needs no introduction, but if anything is clear now, it’s the fact that the Organisation will rather watch the German leave on his own terms rather than give him the sack.

A few days before he becomes legally free to listen to offers from suitors, bits of the new terms Rohr will have to consider in his new Super Eagles contract emerged.

Even more disturbing is that the NFF President Amaju Pinnick went on record to speak on the finer issues of this yet to be offered contract.

The Devil in the details are troubling and the writing on the wall, if Rohr, 66, had any pride in his craft he would walk away from the biggest job he’s ever had.

Rohr wants to stay on, he sees the potential of his work so far done. He hasn’t failed yet, to deliver on any objective set since he took charge in 2016.

However, it also seems he isn’t optimizing the quality within his disposal, hence it’s understandable that he has come under a lot of criticism.

One among such arguments is that the German’s tactics are too conservative and he lacks inventiveness.

But the terms of this new contract don’t bother on his ability or quality of his job. The theme simply looks to rein in the Coach, who may seem to have unfettered and absolute authority over his team.

It’s no wonder a moribund department (Technical Committee) will be resuscitated for this purpose.

Ponder on this: Why on earth was he given a tax-free salary for three years hitherto?

Pinnick also said:

“He will have to submit list of players to be invited for national assignment and as well submit his list for matches to the technical committee. This is to avoid a situation where players just get invited to the Super Eagles without proper check and to avoid unscrupulous players’ agents who lobby to include their players in the national team.”

The Super Eagles Technical Adviser now head Coach will come under scrutiny to “avoid unscrupulous players’ agents who lobby to include their players in the national team.”

Albeit there was never an official vase brought against Rohr, it appears the underlying issues as far as the Coach and his employers are concerned is TRUST.

The break down or lack of this there of has sparked a cold war between the two for months and stoked further by no small means by Rohr’s many official and unofficial interviews to media that has prompted rebuttals from the NFF.

The NFF Leadership might reason its actions are well guided, but it also exposes itself to ridicule and ultimately the Super Eagles to an air of uncertainty, should Rohr do the honorable thing and walk away from the job to keep his sanity.
