Sade Olatoye, Chioma Onyekwere crash out of women’s shot put and discus events in Doha

Nigerian duo of Olatoye Oyesade and Chioma Onyekwere failed to reach the final of the women’s shot put and discus throw event respectively at the ongoing IAAF World Championship in Doha Qatar.

 

Both athletes crashed out of the respective sports at the semi-final stage, as the country’s wait for its first medal at the ten days meeting continues.

 

Olatoye’s throw of 16.97m was not enough to qualify her for the final, while Onyekwere who set a new personal best of 61.38m throw in the discus also missed out of a place I’m the final.

 

Meanwhile Nigeria’s golden boy, Chuckwuka Enekwechi begins is for a medal in the men’s shot put event later on Thursday.

 

The Nigerian and African champion with a record of 21.80m will be desperate to make history at the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha, as no Nigerian man or woman has qualified for the final of the shot put in the history of the championships.

 

Enekwechi has won medals for Nigeria at the commonwealth games in Gold Coast Australia and recently concluded 12th African games in Morocco.
