Sand Eagles can survive World Cup group – Abu Azeez

Sands Eagles captain, Abu Azeez has expressed confidence the team will do well at this year’s FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup.

Azeez was reacting to the outcome of the World Cup draws held over the weekend.

The Beach Soccer star, in a chat with www.Cornerstonenewsng.com, said he believes the draw is a good one for Nigeria and thinks that “if we can emerge from the group stage with these heavyweights, then we should be ready for the challenge. We can do well in the tournament if we prepare well.

“Playing against host Brazil, Portugal and Oman is a good one for us, we should be ready for it.”

He pointed out that five-time champions Brazil are currently the best side in the sport, but believes “we know what we are up against”.

“We played Brazil in the 2011 Copa Lagos also the last time we played against Portugal we won so we just need to prepare well.”

Nigeria best finish in the tournament was in 2011, where the team reached the quarter-finals.

The Sand Eagles are making their sixth appearance at the world cup and will open their campaign against Portugal, on November 22.
