Super Eagles must avenge Uyo loss in Johannesburg, Says Patrick Pascal

Ex-international Patrick Pascal is of the opinion that the Super Eagles must avenge the home loss to the Bafana Bafana when both teams meet in the 2019 AFCON qualifiers in Johannesburg later this month.

South Africa served Gernot Rohr his first loss in charge of the Super Eagles when they defeated the Eagles 2-0 in first game of the 2019 AFCON qualifier back in July 2017 in Uyo.

However, Paschal said that the Super Eagles are the better than their November 17th opponents and believes the victory of the South Africans in Uyo was a fluke.

“You must realize that since that time the Super Eagles have gone on to qualify for the world cup, winning almost every other matches they have played, whereas the South Africans were not able to qualify for the world cup.

We are even ahead of them on the qualifying table”.

“Places we have gone and won, they went there and fumble. This is to tell you how far the Super Eagles have progressed since then,” he said.

Patrick Pascal, who’s also the Super Eagles coordinator added that Nigeria will qualify for the tournament regardless of the result in Johannesburg.

“The main truth is that the result of that match will not determine our qualification since we only need one point to secure our place at the Nations Cup. Again, after the match, Seychelles will still be coming to meet us at home for the final match which from every indication is a winnable match.

But we will put everything in the South Africa match to inflict that same pain of defeat on them in their backyard, the same they did it to us at our home”. he concluded.

Nigeria is topping Group E with nine while the South Africans are second with eight points, a draw will seal Nigeria’s place at the AFCON in Cameroon next year for the first time in three editions.
