An 80-year-old widower ,Pa Pius O ,has been arrested by The Lagos State Task Force during a raid at the Itire area of the State.
Pa Pius who is being detained at the Badagry Prisons, said:” I am a widower, my wife died late last year and I was preparing to go back to my village in the East.As you can see,I am 80,and I can’t hurt a fly.My children were not at home on the fateful day.I was so hungry that I decided to buy roasted yam in a nearby street.I was buying the yam, when I heard gunshots and remain on the roadside watching people running.I couldn’t run, because, I am too old.
” where I was standing, a police man grabbed my trousers and started dragging me to a black Maria .I was begging him to explain what my offence was, but,he was kicking me with his legs. As I am too old to struggle, I followed him and with the help of his colleagues, they bundled me into the Black Maria. Many people were also arrested ,so, the vehicle was too compact for us.We were taken to their office at Oshodi where we were charged to the court.I was telling to consider my age, but, they wouldn’t listen .We were later taken to Badagry Prisons, where we were detained. There was no place to sleep .We all stood till the following day, when I nearly died.I stayed six days in the prisons without
commuting any crime.
(I have been facing one health challenge of the other. I Couldn’t stand the suffering ,so, I passed out and I was rushed to the hospital where I was revived. I don’t know whether I will survive the shock, but,I want to appeal to the government to caution the police on how they carry out raid. They should so their duties with human face and with the fear of God.When they see an old man,old enough to be their grandpa, they should give him the respect.I don’t want to place a curse on anybody but ,our police should police with integrity and fear of God”.
