The History, Stats and Significance of Germany vs Nigeria

Nigeria will face another mammoth opponent in Germany for a spot in the quarter-final at the FIFA Women’s World Cup, and history suggests it will be  one-way streak.

Nigeria reached the second round of the competition for only the second time in their history and have never progressed further.

On Saturday, they will go up against two times world champions Germany for the first time in the knock round of the competition.

However, previous meetings between the two have ended with Germany the happier of the sides.

The sides first met in 1991 at the maiden edition of the competition and Die Nationalelf brushed aside the Super Falcons 4-0 in the opening group game.

Their next meeting in the competition will come five editions later when Germany hosted and were defending champions.

It was another good hunting for the Europeans, but with a more respectable outcome; 1-0.

Another interesting fact, both Countries will feature 34 players [Germany 18, Nigeria 16], combined, who transited from the U20 World Cup between 2010 till 2018.
