Udinese of Italy defender Williams Troost-Ekong has revealed his high and low points as a Super Eagles player, insisting he will never forget when Nigeria sealed 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification in his hometown, Uyo with his family in attendance.
Nigeria defeated Zambia 1-0 at the Nest of Champions on October 7 2017 to book a spot for the global showpiece, with a game to spare.
Ekong who was making his 16th international appearance in the feisty encounter played for the duration of the game.
Alex Iwobi scored the only goal of the match as Nigeria picked maximum points at home.
Speaking in an Instagram live session with Super Eagles Media team, the former Bursaspor of Turkey defender said that moment was very special and emotional for him as his family was in attendance to witness the special occasion.
“Qualifying for World Cup at home in Uyo, my hometown was special with my family there,” he said.
“It was a difficult group with Cameroon, Algeria and Zambia, that was a high point.”
The 26-year-old also disclosed that Nigeria’s 2-0 win against Iceland at the World Cup and his last-minute goal against South Africa in the quarter-final of the 2019 AFCON are his two other high points.
“Another high point was scoring in the last minute against South Africa in the semi-final as well as the win the against Iceland at the World Cup,” Ekong added.
When asked on his low points, the Nigeria international said:
“Obviously my own goal against Algeria and the penalty moment against Croatia at the World Cup,” he concluded.
