Common Clash of Clans Problems & How to Fix Them

Common Clash of Clans Problems & How to Fix Them is a post by Cory Gunther from Gotta Be Mobile.

This guide goes over a list of the most common Clash of Clans problems and how to easily fix them. A big Clash of Clans update arrived in June with Town Hall 12, not to mention the recent Builder Hall 8 update. Both have plenty of changes but are causing problems for some. Here’s what you need to know, how to fix problems, and what to expect from the July 2018 update and moving forward.

Most of the issues In Clash happen on Apple devices, as well as older Samsung smartphones. From weird glitches, games crashing, the content downloading bug, to not being able to install updates at all. Or, the device is not compatible bug. Furthermore, iPhone X users are still facing issues.

Throughout 2018 Supercell has released plenty of updates and added tons of new content. However, every few updates something breaks. The March release caused a slew of problems, and some of those remain today. If you can’t install the latest Summer 2018 update, your tablet isn’t supported, or you’re having other problems, read on for some quick tips.

Heading to the official Supercell Clash of Clans forum users will notice its full of new reports, bugs or issues. As expected, Town Hall 12 is a massive update and a few things ended up broken, or misbehaving, especially with the new Supercell ID. This is typical for any big release, and we’re expecting a quick bug-fixing update within the next 24-48 hours.

We’ll start with Clash of Clans Town Hall 12 bugs and problems, as it’s brand new, then get into other common problems and how to fix them. We also recommend downloading the June 11th update, which has a slew of small fixes and game optimizations.

Clash of Clans Town Hall 12 Update Problems

Where do we begin? First off, if you can’t get the update or the game keeps crashing, don’t panic. Supercell WILL fix this. You did not lose your village. The Clash of Clans summer update is filled with little bugs. We’re seeing dozens of complaints on Twitter, and the forum has nothing but complaints. So far we’re seeing reports of Supercell ID issues, Clan War missing, device not compatible errors, missing updates in app stores, connection problems, and clash downloading additional content notifications.

If you don’t see the update try pulling down in the app store (Android or iOS) to refresh the app store and then get the latest release. Make sure to download the Clash TH12 update over WiFi, as it’s a big one. Then, follow these steps.

  • Supercell ID not working – close all apps that you have running in the background. Restart Clash, then ID should work at this point.
  • Update not visible in App stores – go to App Stores > Updates > Swipe Down the page, this should “force” the update or make it visible
  • App crashes when you try to visit someone else’s Builder Base – developing…
  • Missing Clan Wars – developing…

The other big complaints are Clan Wars missing, Supercell ID, negative resources while attacking, and connectivity problems. Again, expect an update soon with stability improvements. We’ll refresh this post as soon as we hear from the game developers. Try heading to the Clash problems forum for help.

Clash of Clans iOS Not Supported

Whether you’ve played Clash religiously for years or just tried to come back for Town Hall 12, you might notice your old iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch is no longer supported. This is a combination of changes by both Supercell and Apple starting May 14th, 2018.

You must be on iOS 9.0 or newer to play Clash of Clans. If your iDevice is on iOS 8, iOS 7, or anything under iOS 9.0 you won’t be able to update and enjoy the game. Supercell suggests getting the latest software update from Apple (9.0 or newer) or buying a new device. Unfortunately, there is no way around this. If you use an old iPhone 4 or something, sorry. Click here for more info.

Clash of Clans iPhone X Support

Next, in February Supercell finally released a quick update with Clash of Clans iPhone X support. If you’re still having problems, click here for the latest version of the game. The game works perfectly fine on Apple’s sleek new phone, but Supercell didn’t embrace the notch. This was a “problem” we see and hear about every single day on the Clash forum. It’s natively supported, but that’s all.

However, the February and March iPhone X Clash of Clans updates added a few other issues at the same time.

For one, users continue to report extremely small icons, which likely isn’t going away. Furthermore, the layout changed a little for the iPhone X. Instead of the “tab” in the middle all the way to the left for global and clan chats, you now see a small quote icon. This was the only realistic solution to fix the “notch” problem. However, users hate that this does not show notifications for incoming or unread messages.

Basically, the iPhone X is finally supported in Clash of Clans, but now you don’t know when you’re missing messages in chat. Let us know if this was finally fixed in the June TH12 update.

Clash of Clans Black Screen (Won’t Load)

Are you dealing with the Black screen Clash of Clans problem? Basically, when you try to open the game you get a black screen on your phone and nothing happens. The game doesn’t load, there are no sounds, nothing. It’s just black. The game never starts, and you have to close and try again, with no luck. You’re not alone. I’ve dealt with this for over a month, and we’re seeing several similar complaints at the forum.

Right now we have no easy fix for the Clash black screen glitch. Some users reported that you can long-press the Clash icon, pull it to the top of your screen, and select “App Info”. Basically, go to Settings > Apps > Clash and select “Force Close”. This completely shuts down the game, and sometimes it works the next time you try to play. Only sometimes though.

The only solution I’ve found is rebooting my phone. Which, we know, isn’t ideal. We’ve reached out to Supercell and we’re expecting a fix this summer.

Can’t Update Clash of Clans

An issue we’re seeing a lot of complaints about is users are unable to install Clash of Clans updates, mainly on Apple’s iOS. There are a few different problems happening here at once. For general tips about Clash on iOS click here.

The reason most can’t install the Clash of Clans update is that they’re on an old and outdated version of iOS (Apple software) that is no longer supported. Starting with the May/June 2018 Clash of Clans update the game no longer works on anything under iOS 9.0. Back in 2017, they cut support for iOS 7.0 too. Update to the latest software or get a new device.

Also, those on iOS can try uninstalling Clash of Clans and reinstalling it. Then just sign into Game Center and restore your entire village back to your device and Apple ID account. Make sure it’s saved so you can restore the game first, otherwise you could potentially lose everything. That would be awful. More details for transferring accounts is right here.

Finally, make sure your village is saved on iCloud, Supercell ID or Google Play Games, and uninstall it. Then reinstall Clash of Clans, and you should have the latest version. Restore your village and enjoy.

No Update Available for iOS or Chromebook

Oddly enough there’s a wide array of complaints that there’s simply no update available in the App Store, and iPhone users can’t get the new release at all. This is a simple fix. Just tap the screen and drag down from the top of the screen. This will refresh the app store, and you should see the latest update. More information on how to update is right here.

We’re hearing the game is simply no longer available for Chromebook devices. This could be on purpose, but we’re not sure yet. Can you play TH12 on Chromebook or Bluestacks? They are trying to get rid of cheaters and engineered bases, so that could be why.

Samsung Clash of Clans Problems

A few months ago an update caused major problems for Samsung users. That apparently is happening again in 2018. While recent releases added support for the Galaxy S8,  S8+, and S9, older devices are experiencing issues.

For those with a Samsung phone that can’t load Clash or it freezes halfway, try clearing the cache and re-installing the game. We’re hearing about a similar crash or bug on older LG phones. Back up your game before you uninstall it, to avoid losing your village and progress. Head to Settings > Apps > All Apps > Find Clash of Clans and hit clear cache. Then restart your phone and try to update or play the game.

And finally, on some Samsung devices, the resolution is extremely low. This is a known problem that is due to a feature on Samsung phones. Users need to download Samsung’s Game Tuner app, and probably Game Services (Game Mode) to fix the problem in settings. Change graphics to max, and 60 fps. This is from improved graphics APIs in updates. Click here for more details.

Clash of Clans Tiny Font (Galaxy S8, S9, Note 8)

The Galaxy S8, S8+, S9, and Note 8 all have huge screens that are long and skinny, as does the LG V30 and OnePlus 6.

In 2017, Clash added support for full-screen mode on the Galaxy S8/S9. However, this made the font tiny, messed up graphics, and in war, some villages are not visible on the screen. Supercell slowly but surely fixed this issue. If you gave up on the game completely, you’ll be happy to know the December update fixed Clash for the Galaxy S8, S8+ and Galaxy Note 8. Simply download the latest version on the Play Store and you’re all set.

Additionally, Galaxy owners can head to Settings > Display > screen zoom & font and increase the screen zoom to medium or make the font bigger. Keep in mind this makes everything on your phone bigger, not just the game.

Clash of Clans “Downloading Content” Bug

Another big problem inside Clash is the “downloading content” pop-up and error users continue to face. We’ve seen reports about this dating back to 2014, but every few months it creeps up again. Most notably, we’re seeing tons of complaints in June of 2018. This is especially troubling as it wastes users monthly data limits. We have two potential ways to fix this.

  • Close Clash and Clans and change how you are connected to the internet (like turn off WiFi)
  • Reboot your phone so it resets your mobile connection
  • Basically, connect to the game with a different internet connection (3G/4G/LTE/WiFi)

A quick look at the January release notes states they patched a bunch of bugs, improved performance, patched the servers and fixed the downloading content bug. Supercell claims this got fixed a while ago, but it’s happening more and more in 2018. If your game is still opening twice and saying “downloading content” drop us a comment below. We’ve reached out to Supercell and will report back when we know more.

Archers and Wizards Missing from Towers or Camps

After the May 2017 update, dozens of players reported the Archers and Wizards were missing from their towers. This is a glitch that Supercell quickly fixed. However, a similar problem is back lately.

The June updated added tons of new levels, more camps, Siege Machines, Electro Dragon, and changed to Archer Towers to green in Clash of Clans. Did you notice? We can even hold more troops once we upgrade to TH12. However, some are noticing the camps hold less, not more. If you don’t see your Archers, Wizards, or troops are missing (invisible) just reboot the game.

Special Offers Not Being Delivered

The team at Supercell added “Special Offers” or special packs players can buy back in October of 2016, but they’re still occasionally having issues with this. We haven’t seen any issues lately, but if so, here’s a few potential fixes.

The only problem is users are spending real money, and not getting what is promised. This is a huge issue, but Supercell will refund anyone or re-send your special offers.

The offer above is $9.99 and gets you 1200 Gems. That’s how much 1200 gems costs on any given day. However, this special pack rewards those who buy it a decent chunk of gold and a level 2 Bomb Tower completely free. Special offers are great as long as you actually get what you buy.

Countless users on the forum and all over Twitter have confirmed rewards sometimes don’t come through, or they only received the gems. Some bought the $20 pack for 20 wall rings, rune of dark elixir, and builder potions but didn’t receive anything. You can contact Supercell with the in-game controls and request a refund. Most likely they will respond and say to wait, as it will arrive within the next 1-2 hours. Supercell is able to track who does or doesn’t receive the offer and resend it. Eventually, the offer will arrive or you can ask for a refund.

We recommend these same steps if you buy some potions and don’t get what you paid for. Or, if something from Clan Wars doesn’t show up in your chest.

Can’t Build Two Troops at the Same Time

The entire interface for brewing troops and spells or creating an army changed a few years ago, and if you recently re-installed Clash for Town Hall 12 you’ll be confused. Troops brew automatically in the Builder Base, too. Now we can hit “retrain” to use the same army as previous battles, instead of tapping 20 times to make troops like before. There’s also pre-sets to make specific attack styles and compositions for any situation. Just go into any Barracks and look around. It’s confusing at first, but you’ll love the convenience.

Troops brew one at a time now and have been this way for a while. This seems longer, but Supercell actually severely reduced build times throughout 2017. Troops are quicker than ever these days.

Game Crashes & Clouds

After an update, a lot of users experience crashes. The game works fine for most things, but the minute you try to find or start a battle the game crashes or closes. Some are claiming it freezes while traveling between each village.

Another common complaint is how long it takes to find a battle or the “matchmaking clouds”. Supercell is very aware of this problem and is still looking into a solution. This is especially troubling in higher leagues, so stay tuned for more details. If you rush to Town Hall 12, expect clouds as the competition is thin.

If you can’t play at all right now we suggest reinstalling the game or try clearing the cache in the Android application manager through settings. We recommend you backup your village first or sync it to Google Play Games.

Banned After Update

Were you banned from Clash of Clans and can’t play after an update? If so, you were probably cheating or using some mods and illegal software. There’s a tool built-in that detect these applications and changes on smartphones and tablets. If detected you’ll instantly be banned permanently from the game.

Supercell has warned cheaters time and time again, and in late 2016 started banning anyone caught cheating. It’s pretty hard to cheat here in 2018, but some still do, and another new wave is going out with this June summer update. If you feel there was a mistake and you didn’t deserve a ban, contact Supercell.

Other Details

The June 2018 Clash of Clans update is massive. We finally got Town Hall 12 along with Siege Machines, the Giga Tesla, and an Electro Dragon. It’s insane, not to mention cheaper walls and more walls. Even Builder Base received more walls. There are so many changes we recommend hitting this post for more information.

Just know that this is a big update that just arrived, and problems will emerge. Supercell is great at fixing bugs, and we’ll probably get 1-2 new app updates this week alone. Just be patient and wait for them to fix things.

If you can, download the latest Clash of Clans June 11th update right away. It does have bug fixes and changes, in addition to everything that’s new. Drop us a comment below if you’re still experiencing any other issues. Or, check out this other general list of problems and fixes.
