Virgil van Dijk is the most frustrating opponent – Abraham

Chelsea Striker Tammy Abraham has admitted Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk is the most difficult opponent he has come up against so far in his burgeoning career.

The Blues forward, who recently rejected the chance to play for the Super Eagles of Nigeria, will end the uncertainty surrounding his international future following his invitation by the Three Lions’s Coach, Gareth Southgate for England’s upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers against Czech Republic and Bulgaria.

The Chelsea striker came up against the Dutch defender at Stamford Bridge last month with Liverpool running out 2-1 winners in that particular fixture.

Abraham did well, and spurned a one-on-one chance he had in the first-half, but van Dijk was mostly domineering and mostly had the better of the promising striker.

However, the 22-year-old who has scored 8 goals in 8 Premier League games was left feeling frustrated when lining up against Van Dijk and he has this say;

“He’s a beast,” Abraham told the Mirror. “He’s just good at what he does. He’s experienced. I try to do a little… I try to use my tricks in my head but his understanding of the game is top drawer.

“It is to do with little things. Movement. My movement in the box, some defenders don’t pay attention to me – they are only focussed on the ball.

“With him, it’s kind of both, he’s paying attention to me and the ball, knows where I am, knows where I want to go, follows me.

“It’s quite annoying for a striker – just leave me alone!”
