What Super Eagles bench thought before Ighalo’s Substitution against Burundi

Odion Ighalo needn’t prove he’s the Super Eagles go to guy. Top scorer in the 2019 AFCON qualifiers and the bringer of relief; as he showed against Burundi.

Ighalo, who had only just recovered from a hamstring injury that has kept him out for almost month, came off the bench to break the resilience of a stubborn Intamba defence.

His teammates knew the instance he stepped on the turf of the Alexandria Stadium that he would burst the net – four minutes later he did.

Recounting the moment, winger Henry Onyekuru said, “I was just waiting for a goal, everybody wants victory and it is very good to start with a victory.

“So when I saw Ighalo going in I was 100 percent sure that something was going to happen and he didn’t disappoint,” Onyekuru told brila.net.
