Amokachi reveals how Okocha became first ‘most expensive’ African player

Former Super Eagles forward Daniel Amokachi says Austine Okocha’s impressive performance during France 98 world cup earned him a move to French giants Paris Saint-German.

Okocha was by far stand out player in the Super Eagles squad that reached the round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup for the second consecutive time.

 

However, despite the 4-1 humiliating second-round defeat to Denmark, Okocha won the heart of many football enthusiasts for his individual display.

 

Okocha’s impressive performance caught the attention of Paris Saint-Germain who later signed him from Turkish side Fenerbahce for then African record – 27 million dollars.

“Coaching was our biggest problem and the main reason we failed,” he said.

 

After recording victory over Spain and Bulgaria in the opening two games, the Super lost to Paraguay in the last Group game, before suffering a 4-1 defeat in the of Denmark to crash out of the tournament.
