Despite scoring Nigeria’s first World Cup goal, Ezeugo insists Yekini was not at USA ’94

Former Super Eagles defender Emeka Ezeugo has insisted that late striker Rasheed Yekini was not in the Nigerian squad for the 1994 FIFA World Cup led by Coach Clemence Westerhof.

Yekini was said to be bitter about Coach Clemence Westerhof’s treatment of players, accusing Westerhof of playing favorites.

In a very explosive interview with brila.net, Ezeogu slammed Coach Westerhof’s treatment of players and accused the coach of playing only the guys he wants to market.

“Rasheed Yekini was not at the World Cup, he scored just a tap in,’ Emeka told brila.net.

“Did you see the gangling forward you use to see before the World Cup? If not for me, Yekini wouldn’t have played that first match, Ezeugo said.

Though Yekini sadly passed away in 2012 at the age of 48, he scored 37 goals in 58 appearances for the Super Eagles, making him the country’s highest goal scorer.
