Elumelu preaches caution in process to see Rohr achieve success

A former member of the Nigeria Football Federation Technical and development committee Barrister Austel Elumelu has advised the leadership of the NFF to be cautious in the implementation of the provision to have current Nigeria’s Super Eagles handler Gernot Rohr incorporate Nigerian league players into the national team.

Elumelu speaking in a chat with Cornerstonenewsng.comsaid seeing the national team succeed is the immediate and most important responsibility of the coach so as not to impede his success with demands on how to achieve result.
He backed the idea of having the coach hand few opportunities to the league players but that the coach should be allowed the exclusive right to steer the team knowing the task ahead of him.
“When you ask somebody to do a certain thing, the person must have his own way of doing things, for me I will rather go round Europe looking for Nigerian players getting them here and using them to play in any competition.
You know the level of football within our country although I must still give kudos to the Federation. So if the coach has to coach Nigeria and use local players, he must watch a certain percentage of the local league or must have people he trusts that will go round region watching the league and make recommendations.”
