Ighalo’s goal divides opinion amongst Manchester United legends

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Ince has played down the quality of  Odion Ighalo’s goal against LASK in the UEFA Europa league game on Thursday.

The former English forward described the goal as one of the strike players scored in training ground and questioned be would have tried it with full stadium watching him.

United played their round if 16 first-leg match in Austria behind closed doors due to Coronavirus outbreak , but won 5-0 and it was Odion Ighalo who opened the floodgate with a wonderful strike in the first half.

The Nigerian connected with a pass from Bruno Fernandes, juggled it a couple of times before firing a left-footed strike into the top corner.

Ince who was speaking as TV pundit,  admitted that it was a nice goal but says Ighalo was helped by the lack of fans in the stadium.

“Maybe I’m doing a disservice to Ighalo,” he said on BT Sport.

“Obviously we know what a great player Fernandes is.

“They get a bit fortunate there but this ball from the outside of his feet… here [Ighalo] juggles it one or two, three times and fires it in the top-hand corner.

“It reminds me of one of those that you’d do at training. If it was a full house, I don’t know.

“Maybe I’m doing a disservice to him, I don’t know. It’s a wonderful goal, let me tell you that now, it’s a fantastic strike.”

Meanwhile another former United midfielder Owen Hargreaves disagreed with the former Liverpool midfielder, and praised Ighalo’s precision and execution.

Hargreaves added that the goal sprung United to life and put them in the right frame of mind to finish the game.

Hargreaves said: “Come on Incey, that’s a beautiful goal. That’s one of the best goals he’s ever scored.

“Touch, touch, bang. That’s like Tony Yeboah, that’s a thing of beauty.

“To be fair that goal sums up United, their confidence is flying. Even Ighalo is trying that type of goal, great finish.” He said.
