Is Mikel Obi retired? Gernot Rohr disrespected Eagles captain fans react

So what’s the big deal about a jersey number?

Apparently, a humongous one for Super Eagles fans, who aren’t happy about the decision of the Head Coach, Gernot Rohr issuing an iconic number to a debutant.

A day after his debut for the Eagles in a 3-1 win over Seychelles in the final 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, Paul Onuachu paid a tribute to Legendary Austin Okocha.

The 25-year-old posted a picture of the former Eagles captain in the iconic number 10 jersey with a crown emoji, as homage to the former midfielder.

Perhaps, in reference to his first senior team jersey number, when he was introduced in the 65th minute.

Meanwhile, current captain Mikel Obi has also recently been issued the same number and wore it at the World Cup in Russia last June.

Still active in the national team; as often confirmed by Rohr himself, the idea of another player in team picking the shirt number in the absence of the captain peeved fans.

On social media, Eagles fans reacted angrily to the decision, with a facebook users describing it as a “disrespect” to the 31-year-old midfielder.

Kpagyang Meshach: Simon Pls has mikel retired from international football?

Uchenna Udegbunam: Mikel has not retired from the national team,so giving some one a captain’s jersey number is desrespectful. You can’t do that to Messi or Ronaldo

Dani Milez: Since mikel isnt retired yet the No 10 should have been reserved

So, what do you think?
