I’ve learnt a lot from my AFCON mistake – Balogun

Super Eagles and Brighton and Hove Albion of England defender, Leon Balogun has submitted that he has learned a lot from his mistake at the just concluded AFCON in Egypt, while also calling on Nigerians to be careful of how they criticize players so as not to kill their morale.

Balogun was the major culprit in the first goal the Super Eagles conceded that eventually led to a 2-0 loss against Madagascar in their final group stage, with the Eagles eventually picking up bronze at the tournament.

Balogun received a good number of backlash from soccer-loving Nigerians following that error, something that didn’t go down well with the former Mainz of Germany player.

Speaking with www.brila.net, Balogun added that he has taken the positives from the situation, understanding that Nigerians always want the Eagles to win.

“You make a mistake because you made a decision on the pitch. No one will really know what your thoughts were in that situation, they just see the end product”.

“You have to anticipate many things on the field. I don’t blame anyone. It’s natural, everyone wants to see us succeed, so I will take the positives from the situation. Just be mindful of your criticism because it might not always be what it appears to”.
