Kaduna: DPO rejects N1m bribe from suspected kidnapper

The Kaduna State Police Command yesterday said the DPO attached to Police Divisional Headquarters, Tafa, Kaduna, has rejected the N1 million bribe offered to him by a suspected kidnapper, Bello Muhammad from Zamfara State.
Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) ASP Mansir Hassan said the 28-year-old suspect was arrested at a hotel following credible intelligence on his arrival at the hotel in the state’s Tafa, Kagarko local government area.

According to him, “on the 19th January 2024, the said Divisional Headquarters received credible information regarding the presence of a suspicious person at a hotel in Tafa town.
“Operatives led by the DPO stormed the hotel; arrested a certain 28-year-old Bello Muhammad, from Zamfara State, and recovers the sum of N2.3 million suspected to be his share of proceeds of kidnapping.
“During investigation, the suspect admitted to being a kidnapper, who operated with his gang around Kagarko forest in Kaduna.
“Moreover, a check of his mobile phone corroborated the suspect’s confession as pictures of him brandishing an AK47 rifle in a forest were retrieved.
“Muhammad thus, offered N1 million to the DPO to stop him for further investigation which the Police Officer forthwith rejected.

“Investigation is still ongoing as the suspect is assisting the Police with vital information.
“The Commissioner of Police Kaduna State Command, CP A.D Ali, while praising the Tafa Division’s Operatives, urged them and others not to dwindle, but to increase the tempo until crimes and criminality are reduced minimally”, he said.
He,however ,quoted the Commissioner of Police in the State, Audu Ali, warning hoteliers, recreation and leisure service operators to always scrutinise their clients before accommodating them.
