The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a man Prince Owabie for allegedly beating his girlfriend, Betha Ogbede, to death and burying her in his room in Rumuepirikom, area of the state.

It was gathered that Owabie was in the habit of beating his live-in -lover until he finally beat her to death at the weekend.

According to a family source of the deceased, her sister had gone to pick her belongings from Owabie’s house, when an argument ensues between them, resulting in a fight, which led to her death.

During the argument, she had called her sister, telling her, in tears, that her boyfriend wanted to kill her. However, when she failed to return home, a search was launched for her.

When the suspect was confronted on the deceased’s whereabouts, he admitted that she was in his house, but later left for her state. and that he had not heard from her since then.

Not satisfied with his explanation, her family members stormed Owabie’s house, in the early hours of yesterday and discovered a shallow grave in his room. He then confessed that he buried Betha in the grave.

A Police source who spoke on the condition of anonymity as he was not supposed to speak told Cornerstone news that the suspect has been handed over to the Homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department ( SCIID) while the body of the girl has been exhumed and deposited in the mortuary for autopsy .
