The hosts broke the deadlock in the 11th minute through Napoli’s former attacker Goran Pandev, thanks to a Milan Badelj assist.

Pandev struck again fourteen minutes later to complete his brace as Gattuso’s side failed to close him down earlier before firing past David Ospina in goal.

Gattuso reacted In the second-half and introduced Lorenzo Insigne and Osimhen for Piotr Zielinski and Petagna respectively in the 54th minute.

The pair tried numerous times to make things happen for Copa Italian holders but the home side defended with plenty of bodies to protect their lead.

Napoli however found a way back in the 79th minute, as Matteo Politano beat goalkeeper Mattia Perin from a goalmouth scramble.

It was the first goal Genoa will concede in their last five league matches and in over 400 minutes of football.
