Police arrest 900 suspects in Lagos

Lagos State Police Command said it arrested 889 suspects in eight months.
The State Commissioner of police ,Mr Hakeem Odumosu, said the suspects comprised of armed robbers and cultists.

Mr Odumosu, who disclosed this yesterday while hosting the Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) Zone 2 Command, Mr. Johnson Kokumo, who was on a familiarisation visit to Lagos State Police command, said the suspects were nabbed between January and August.
He said that 490 suspected armed robbers and 297 suspected cultists were arrested at different parts of the state during the period under review, stressing that no personnel of the command was killed within same period.
Odumosu said that 173 assorted arms, 239 ammunition of various calibre were also recovered from the suspects.

He said 42 cars stolen by criminals were recovered within few days of theft and were subsequently handed over to their owners.
AIG Kokumo, who commended the CP, officers and men of the command for reducing crimes in the state urged them to do more. Kokumo, who however expressed worries over the traffic situation in the state urged Odumosu and his men to rise up to the challenges and carry out “Operation keep the traffic moving”, stressing that traffic was also responsible for some robbery incidents in the state.

He urged the officers and men to rise early to check traffic build-up in their respective areas, saying that Ogun and Lagos states would have a joint patrol to tackle robbery incidents in their border towns, particularly, on the long bridge of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The AIG said some of his expectations from the officers and men in Lagos include observations of human rights and professionalism in their conducts.

He warned them against corruption, involvement in indiscipline and civil matters, stressing that criminal cases were enough to engage them.

Kokumo commended the Lagos State Government for providing logistics for the Police and appealed for more. He also commended the Lagos State Police command for training its men and officers and for embarking on the 50-bedroom project for the junior officers. He assured the CP that his request for logistics support would be tabled before the I-GP.
