Rangers boss Ogunbote remains confident despite Etoile loss

Rangers International head coach Olugbenga Ogunbute says his side must take responsibility for their shock 0-2 CAF Confederations Cup defeat to Etoile du Sahel at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium on Sunday.

The Flying Antelopes lost the first fixture 2-1 last week in Tunis and the supporters of the Club were optimistic about their team chances of avenging the loss and take a giant step towards qualification for the next round of the competition.

However, the Tunisians proved to be difficult nuts to crack for Ogunbote and his wards as goals from Maher Hannechi and Iheb Msakni were enough to hand a shock win.

While speaking after the match, Ogunbote admitted his side was second best in both legs but apologized to the fans for the home loss.

“I have to apologize to the fans for the disappointing result, we let them down and we take full responsibility for the performance today. We were not good enough all day long, We also were naive defensively and we paid dearly today for it.”

The veteran coach remains optimistic that Rangers will still qualify for the knockout stages.

“We still have our destiny in our own hands. Yes, today’s defeat is a huge setback but I still strongly believe we can qualify. It starts with our performance next Sunday against Salitas in Burkina Faso. If we play to our strengths, I am very sure we can get a result.”

With the back to back defeats,  Rangers must overcome CS Xfasien Salitas away from home to stand a chance of qualifications into the next round.
