Siasia Happy With Eagles’ Rise In FIFA Ranking, Sure Team Will Improve

By Bamidele Boluwaji:

Former Super Eagles coach Samson Siasia has told Completesportsnigeria.com that the latest FIFA ranking will boost Nigeria’s preparation for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, saying the team will still do better after the three friendly matches lined up before their departure to Russia.

The Super Eagles, who defeated Poland 1-0 and lost 2-0 to Serbia in the build-up games in March, moved up five places from 52nd to the 47th position in the latest FIFA world ranking released on Thursday.

Reacting to the development, Siasia, who was part of the Super Eagles squad to the 1994 FIFA World Cup in the United States of America, said he believes coach Gernot Rohr is working on the areas that need improvement before the World Cup.

“I think it is a good development to hear that the Super Eagles have improved in their ranking,” Siasia told CSN.

“I believe that they will keep improving because we are close to the World Cup and they have learnt from the two games played recently. Like I said earlier, the remaining friendly matches will be different from those they have played.

“The coach and the NFF are working and I also want the players to have a common goal towards the World Cup.”
Nigeria will play Congo Democratic Republic next month in another friendly match. After that, they will play Czech Republic and England in June.
