The Future of Nigeria Football – Okocha advocates for more focus on grassroots

Former Super Eagles and Bolton Wanderers Skipper Austin Jay Jay Okocha has voiced his opinion on the best way to get Nigeria football back to the glory days.

The former midfield wizard told Cornerstonenewsng.comin a chat that the only way to rejuvenating Nigeria Football should start from the grassroots as that’s how it was done in the ’90s and not rocket science.

“I usually feel bad when talented players are not properly harnessed to help them discover their talents. We need more Okochas in this country. They are spread in the streets. What they need is a goal driven program.”

Okocha believes the football Federation should put the infrastructure in place and go back to the grass root because the future lies with the youth.

“When you fail to encourage the youth or guide them or create a platform for them to develop, you will suffer in the future, Okocha said.

The former 3-time BBC African footballer of the year was appointed to scout for the Eagles going into this year’s AFCON in Egypt alongside former teammates Tijani Babangida and Kanu Nwankwo.
