Union Berlin European ambition hits a snag, Awoniyi fires blank against Greuther Fürth

Taiwo Awoniyi fired blank as Union Berlin played a disappointing 1-1 draw with Greuther Fürth in Friday’s German Bundelisga game.

Awoniyi went into the game searching for his 14th league goal of the campaign, but fell short once again.

The forward was tamed and limited to just three efforts on goal all game, with just one hitting the target.

He also had just 20 touches in the game, before he was hauled off by the coach after 70 minutes.

The Union Berlin’s record signing, who has been linked with a move to West Ham United and Newcastle United, has now failed to score in his last three games.

The game ended 1-1 and the result prevented Union Berlin from confirming their qualification for Europe next season.

The visitors took the lead in the 33rd-minute, courtesy of a strike from Branimir Hrgota, but substitute Sven Michel snatched a point for Union Berlin in the second half.
