Duke Udi Happy To join Akwa United

Former Nigeria international, Duke Udi, says he’s delighted to join Nigeria Professional Football League side Akwa United ahead of next season.

The former Nigeria youth signed a year contract with the Promise Keepers and will replace Brazilian gaffer, Raphael Everton, who left his role after the end 2018/19 NPFL Championship Playoffs in Lagos, where the team failed to pick a continental ticket.

Udi, former Giwa FC, Sunshine Stars and Osun United head coach will now work with John Obuh who also assumed duties as the Club’s technical adviser on Monday.

“I’m delighted to become the coach of Akwa United and I’m grateful to the management led by Paul Bassey and the government of Akwa Ibom State,”

“I played for Akwa United in 2007 and coming back in 2019 to coach the team is a thing of joy for me.

“It is not often for one to coach his former club and for me, I’m grateful and happy getting the opportunity to coach my former club.

“It’s a big challenge for me and I’m going to give it my utmost best,” Udi said.

Udi is now expected to hit the ground running at the Uyo based club, as they aim to win the Nigeria professional football league for the time in their history.
